Festive Mocktails

Expectaiton really ramps up during December and through the festivities. Whether we apply that expectation on ourselves or whether it comes from others externally, it always feels very much there. Some would argue that making an active decision to say no, and simply choose not to absorb or take on the seasonal expectations is the solution. However I know that often there is a part of us that likes the middle ground. to feel empowered and confident to be authentic and our true selves, whilst still mixing in with the party, making memories and having fun.

The challenge then is not if or should I go to the party or to see friends; but re-shaping and framing the boundaries beforehand so confidence and fun is had by all and the anxiety of expectation is lessened.

Yes, I am talking about alcohol and drinking. Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of days of the week, times of the day and our own conscious boundaries around consuming alcohol. I have taken this last year to learn, listen and navigate my own new journey with alcohol as I journey through a stronger, more confident self in this new season I find myself in. Often choosing to say no to drinking and choosing more energy, more focus, less brain fog and grumpiness on the back off of a heavy night. I still enjoy a Guinness or glass of fizz now and then, but my relationship and education with alcohol has changed and improved. I have learnt how it impacts the gut, the brain, hormones, and my overall health and wellbeing. I have enjoyed becoming more self aware and grown in confidence to exercise my chosen nutritional boundaries.

In light of this, and through my work as a mindful nutritional cook and coach, I have been able to speak to many people and listen to their stories and relationships towards alcohol. My company (Good Evans Kitchen) has a business model that openly chooses to be alcohol free. It is a business decision that represents my brand , what I teach and strives to be an inclusive solution to opening up a wider conversation around habits and our relationship to our bodies.

I have written a collection of festive mocktails for you all to try out this season. They are fun to make and super delicious. You can download the Free PDF below.
